Landing Pages/ Destination URLs

The following guidelines apply to all ads appearing on websites owned or operated by BitTorrent, Inc. (“BitTorrent”) or in connection with BitTorrent software or other properties (sometimes collectively referred to as the “BitTorrent Properties”). BitTorrent reserves the right to reject or remove advertising in our discretion. These guidelines are subject to change at any time and BitTorrent may waive any of these guidelines at its discretion. 
• Ads that contain a URL or domain in the body must link to that same URL or domain
• Ads that contain a Product name or Logo in the body must link to that same URL or domain
• Ads must send users to the same landing page when the ad is clicked
• Ad content  should corresponds with the content on a landing page
• Landing pages cannot generate a pop-up (including “pop-overs” and “pop-unders”) when a user enters or leaves the page 
• Landing pages cannot use “fake” close behavior (ie. when a user clicks the ‘close’ icon on the page, the page should close down and no other behavior should result)
• Landing pages cannot utilize “mouse trapping” whereby the advertiser does not allow users to use their browser “back button” and traps them on their site and / or present any other unexpected behavior (for example: navigation to another ad or page)
• Ads cannot require viewers to click on the ad to submit Personally Identifiable Information (such as name, date of birth, phone numbers, social security number, physical addresses, or email addresses) on the landing page or in the ad, except to enable an ecommerce transaction 

BitTorrent References

The following conditions apply to all ads that have another BitTorrent page as its destination:
1. Ads may make limited references to “BitTorrent” in its title, body, or image for the purposes of clarifying the destination of the ad
2. Ads cannot imply any endorsement of the product, service, or ad destination by BitTorrent

All other ads, destination ads, and landing pages must adhere to the following restrictions:
1. Ads cannot mention or refer to BitTorrent, its site or its brand in any manner, including in the title, body, image, or destination URLs
2. Ads cannot use BitTorrent logos, trademarks, or site terminology (including but not limited to BitTorrent, uTorrent, the BitTorrent wave log, the uTorrent logo, and other BitTorrent graphics, logos, designs, or icons) or any confusingly similar marks
3. BitTorrent site features cannot be emulated

Advertisers must ensure that their ads comply with all applicable laws, regulations and guidelines. All claims in ads must be adequately substantiated. Ads must directly relate to the content on the landing page. Ads must clearly represent the product, service or brand that is being advertised. The following specific content guidelines apply:

Ad Copy and Image Content

1. Grammar, sentence structure, spelling, and spacing 
• Ad text must be grammatically correct and contain proper sentence structure 
• Ad text must be in complete sentences 
• Ads cannot include excessive repetition (such as “buy, buy, buy”) 
• Ads must use correct spelling 
• Ad text must include grammatically correct spacing
2. Capitalization 
• Ads must use proper, grammatically correct capitalization (such as capitalizing the first letter of all proper nouns and capitalizing the title of the ad) 
• Ads cannot include excessive capitalization (such as “FREE”) or incorrect capitalization (such as capitalizing the first letter of every word in a sentence) 
• Acronyms may be capitalized
3. Punctuation 
• Ads must include logical, correct punctuation 
• Ads cannot contain repeated and unnecessary punctuation (such as “Buy now!!!”) 
• All complete sentences (including if the ad title is a complete sentence) must end with a single punctuation mark. Sentences cannot end with ellipses, dashes, etc. 
• Exclamation points cannot be used in the title of any ad
4. Strobing and flashing: Strobing, flashing backgrounds, or otherwise distracting ads are not allowed. Do not attempt to overtly distract the user from page / client content.


1. The following specific guidelines apply to software downloads via BitTorrent ads: 
•For advertisers promoting software, the ad unit along with the advertiser’s landing page, cannot automatically initiate the download or installation of any type of software. BitTorrent has the right to reject or approve any software offering. 
• If registration is required, registration process must include privacy policy that describes the use or sharing of personally identifiable information (PII) for any marketing / promotional activities and provides users with an easy unsubscribe mechanism for emails 
• Does not materially change software offered or provided to BitTorrent users in connection with an ad from the software presented to and approved by BitTorrent prior to campaign launch 
• Must make uninstall instructions easy to find and understand. Methods for uninstalling must be available in places where consumers are accustomed to finding them, such as the Add / Remove Programs feature in the Windows Control Panel. Uninstallation must remove all software associated with the particular application being uninstalled, and cannot be contingent on a consumer’s providing personally identifiable information, unless that information is required for account verification
 2. Software ads may not contain or link directly to a site that contains spyware / malware downloads or any software that results in an unexpected, deceptive or unfair user experience, including but not limited to software which: 
• “Sneaks” onto a user’s system 
• Performs activities hidden to the user 
• May alter, harm, disable or replace any hardware or software installed on a user’s computer without express permission from the user 
• Is bundled as a hidden component of other software whether free or for an additional fee 
• Collects or requests BitTorrent usernames or passwords from any user 
• Violates or infringe upon the intellectual property rights of any third party, including copyright, trademark, patent or any other proprietary right


1. Ads that promote or reference alcohol are prohibited in the following countries: Afghanistan, Brunei, Bangladesh, Egypt, Gambia, Kuwait, Libya, Norway, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen and any other jurisdiction where such ads are prohibited by law
2. Where permissible, ads that promote or reference alcohol must: 
• Comply with all applicable local laws, required or recommended industry codes, guidelines, licenses and approvals 
• Apply country targeting criteria consistent with BitTorrent’s targeting guidelines and applicable local laws. Where a user’s country cannot be determined, the ad must not be displayed to the user


Ads for adult friend finders or dating sites with a sexual emphasis are not permitted. Ads for other online dating services must adhere to the dating targeting requirements and the name of the product or service must be included in the ad text or image.

Gambling and Lotteries

1. Ads that promote or facilitate online gambling, games of skill or lotteries, including online casino, sports books, bingo, or poker, are only allowed in specific countries with prior authorization from BitTorrent
2. Lotteries run by government entities may advertise on BitTorrent Properties, provided that ads must be targeted in accordance with applicable law in the jurisdiction in which the ads will be served and may only target users in the jurisdiction in which the lottery is available
3. Ads that promote offline gambling establishments, such as offline casinos, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, are generally permitted, provided that ads must be appropriately targeted
4. Ads may not encourage irresponsible gambling behavior or present gambling as an income opportunity or an alternative to employment. Ads may not use symbols such as U.S. dollar (i.e. $$) and pound (i.e. ##) signs that are unrelated to any specific amounts

Pharmaceuticals and Supplements

1. Ads must not promote the sale of prescription pharmaceuticals. Ads for online pharmacies are prohibited except that ads for certified pharmacies may be permitted with prior approval from BitTorrent
2. Ads that promote dietary and herbal supplements are generally permitted, provided they do not promote products containing anabolic steroids, chitosan, comfrey, dehydroepiandrosterne, ephedra, human growth hormones, melatonin, and any additional products deemed unsafe or questionable by BitTorrent in its sole discretion

Unacceptable Business Model

Ads may not promote a business model or practice that is deemed by BitTorrent in its sole discretion to be unacceptable or contrary to BitTorrent’s overall advertising philosophy or to any applicable law, including but not limited to multi-level marketing schemes, or advertisements for scams.

1. Ads and any offers promoted within ads must not be false, misleading, fraudulent, deceptive, or contain spam
2. Ads must not violate the rights of any third parties
3. Ads cannot insult, harass, or threaten a user
4. Ads cannot contain, facilitate, promote, or reference any of the following: 
• Offensive, profane, vulgar, obscene or inappropriate language 
• Obscene, defamatory, libelous, slanderous and / or unlawful content 
• Tobacco products, illegal or recreational drugs or drug or tobacco paraphernalia 
• Ammunition, firearms, paintball guns, bb guns, weapons or explosives of any kind 
• Scams, illegal activity, illegal products or services, pyramid schemes, or chain letters 
• Contests and sweepstakes unless given permission by BitTorrent to do so 
• Get rich quick and other money making opportunities that offer compensation for little or no investment, including money making schemes positioned as alternatives to part-time or full-time employment 
• Adult content, including nudity, sexual terms and / or images of people in positions or activities that are excessively suggestive or sexual, or provocative images in violation of community standards 
• Adult friend finders or dating sites with a sexual emphasis 
• Adult products or services, including but not limited to adult toys, videos, publications, live shows, or sexual enhancement products 
• Uncertified pharmaceutical products 
• Spy cams or illegal surveillance equipment 
• Web-based non-accredited colleges that offer degrees 
• Inflammatory religious content 
• Politically religious agendas and / or any known associations with hate, criminal and / or terrorist activities 
• Content that exploits political agendas or uses “hot button” issues for commercial use regardless of whether the Advertiser has a political agenda 
• Hate speech, whether directed at an individual or a group, and whether based upon the race, sex, creed, national origin, religious affiliation, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or language of such individual or group 
• Content that advocates against any organization, person, or group of people, with the exception of candidates running for public office 
• Content that depicts a health condition in a derogatory or inflammatory way or misrepresents a health condition in any way

Data and Privacy

1. You may not use user data you receive from us or collect through running an ad, including information you derive from your targeting criteria, for any purpose off of BitTorrent, without user consent
2. Ads cannot contain, facilitate or promote ‘spam’ or other advertising or marketing content that violates applicable laws, regulations or industry standards
3. Email sent to users who register to advertiser products or services must comply with US CAN-SPAM Act, as well as anti-spam laws of the countries your recipients live in

Prices, Discounts, and Free Offers

1. Ads cannot be deceptive or fraudulent about any offer made
2. If an ad includes a price, discount, or ‘free’ offer: 
• The destination URL for the ad must link to a page that clearly and accurately offers the exact deal the ad has displayed 
• The ad must clearly state what action or set of actions is required to qualify for the offer

Subscription Services

Ads for services or any site that induces a user to sign up for recurring billing of a product or service, or that promote products or services that include negative options, automatic renewal, free-to-pay conversion billing products, or mobile marketing must comply with the conditions noted below and as determined by BitTorrent in its sole discretion.

1. The promoted website must clearly and accurately display the price and billing interval (such as per week or once per month) on the landing page as well as any page that prompts a user for billing information (including, but not limited to, mobile phone number or credit card number)
2. If the service is a subscription, the landing page must provide a consent mechanism indicating that the user knowingly accepts the price and subscription service. This should be on the first page where the user enters personal data
3. The Terms of Service or Help language must inform users how to cancel their subscription or membership
4. All of the foregoing items should be located in a prominent place on your website and should be easy to find, read, and understand

Copyrights and Trademarks

1. Ads cannot include any content that infringes upon or violates the rights of any third party, including copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity or other personal or proprietary right 
2. The advertiser must have intellectual property rights to the creative and be permitted to display such creative as advertising on the BitTorrent Properties
